2011-11 November Report

Dolau WI Report – November 2011 News

Dolau WI AGM was held in November, when the required business was dealt with as expeditiously as possible.  Julie Hardwick will continue as President for the next year, Colette Gwynne will continue as Secretary, and we will also have the same Treasurer.   We were told that we had a reasonably healthy bank balance, but with prices increasing constantly, vigilance was needed to ensure that we keep sufficient funds available to enable an interesting Programme to be planned for the year ahead.

Following the AGM, the November main meeting was held.  Members were thanked for attending a recent Programme Planning meeting, which had produced several new ideas.  The Federation Newsletter was discussed and this included details of Christmas Craft Workshops, aBeetle Driveand the National-Wales Conference to be held in Aberystwyth in March 2012.

Following the business part of the meeting, we welcomed ‘Van’ from Van’s Good Food Shop inMiddleton Street, Llandrindod Wells.  Van had started up in business in 1974 and had been involved in various ventures along the way, but now concentrated on his shop in Llandrindod.  He had very generously brought with him many items which are available in his shop including delicious breads, which are baked by an award-winning baker based in Hay, a multitude of different cheeses, chutney, locally produced crisps and a delicious seasonal spiced drink which was served hot.  Members really enjoyed trying all the different flavours available, meanwhile being regaled by Van of different memories, experiences he has had over the years in his business.  We were reminded that as well as the delicious fare available to us that night, he would be stocking up with extra special goodies for the Christmas period.

A few days after our meeting, our annual fund-raising Quiz was held; many thanks to all who attended, but especially to Maureen Foister for providing the questions and being our Quizmaster on the night.  A challenging evening was enjoyed and a modest profit made.
