Dolau WI May 2012 Report

The May meeting of Dolau WI took the form of a Guest Evening when a Seasonal Cookery Demonstration was to be given by Suzanne Beaumont Davies from Norton.  Invitations had been sent out to all the otherWIsin the Radnor Federation; an advertisement included in ‘The Trumpet’ and emails sent to local addressees – so we hoped for a good turnout.  We were not disappointed and all the chairs put out by the willing ‘WI husbands’ were soon taken; raffle tickets were sold by the yard and brisk business was soon taking place at a ‘Bring and Buy’ stall held as an additional attraction.

In view of the unseasonal cold weather, Suzanne had revised her original ideas for the evening slightly and demonstrated Welsh Cheese Chicken, Hollandaise Sauce and Rhubarb and Ginger Syllabub.  The chicken dish included instructions on jointing and boning a chicken and stuffing the resultant chicken Supremes with tasty Welsh cheddar cheese and spring onions; these were served a brandy cream sauce.  Suzanne then went on to show how easy it was to prepare Hollandaise Sauce – a very versatile sauce which can make the simplest of dishes into a meal fit for a Queen!  Finally, we were treated to a Rhubarb and Ginger Syllabub with textures contrasting between the smooth creamy rhubarb mixture, incorporating slivers of ginger, and the crisp butteriness of the accompanying shortbread.  Suzanne proved to be a very entertaining, as well as accomplished, speaker and demonstrator and the evening was very much enjoyed.  After all the tasting of Suzanne’s delicious cooking, we all still managed to enjoy a superb WI supper – food seems to rate highly on WI evenings!
