2013-01 January 2013 Report

Dolau WI – January 2013 Report

Dolau WI has had a very busy Christmas Period.  At our December meeting Mandy Jones and Lynne Lidiart gave am enlightening demonstration on flower arranging giving special emphasis to a Christmas table centre piece.  We were  impressed with the beautiful arrangements created in a few minutes by Lynne with a commentary by Mandy.  After watching them create several arrangements it was time for all the members to have a go and with quite a lot of fun and good natured rivalry we all managed to have lovely arrangements to take home with us.

We all had an excellent Christmas dinner at the Horse and Jockey, Knighton accompanied by our partners. Following  the meal we took part in a quiz organised by our President – Heather.

Members turned out on two very cold nights to carol sing around both Dolau and Penybont.  We were warmed by the welcome we were given and the mulled wine that was very much appreciated.  We had a lot of fun and were very pleased to raise £315 on the two nights.  We are presenting money raised to Llandrindod Wells Hospital to go towards a new specialised bed that they are purchasing.

At our January meeting we were very pleased to welcome Rob Dingle, the Offas Dyke Path Officer.  He showed slides and gave an informative talk on The Offas Dyke Path and his role in improving and keeping the path as unspoiled and preserved as possible.  The slides showed some of the beautiful parts of the walk and many of us were inspired to walk some of the route.  Rob very kindly offered to escort us sometime during the Summer.

The competitions for members were to make a tea cosy and a fruit cake.  Heather Lewis has the best tea cosy and Wendy Duggan had the best fruit cake.

Our next meeting will be on 6 February at 7.30 p.m. when we are having a popcorn evening – Dolau Style!  If you would like to join us you will be warmly welcomed.

We meet in Dolau Community Hall at 7.30 and visitors are always most welcome. If you would like any additional information, please telephone Heather Lewis on 851757 or Colette Gwynne on 851050.
