Dolau WI Report November 2014

Dolau WI held its AGM on the 5th November at Dolau Community Centre. The treasurer, Chris Jones, presented the annual financial statement which had been independently examined. The secretary, Collette Gwynne, reported on the highlights of the year which included carol singing and raising funds for Shelter Box, cushion making workshop, successes in various competitions and many extremely interesting speakers. The president, Heather Lewis, commented on the strong entries at the shows and her desire to increase membership and quality of meetings. She also reported that Dolau WI had celebrated its 65th anniversary and received a certificate at the WI Annual Council Meeting.

Officers appointed for the 2015 are President, Heather Lewis; Secretary, Collette Gwynne; Minutes Secretary, Gill Holt; Treasurer, Chris Jones.

Other posts filled were Vice President, Debra Coombs; Press Secretary, Janet Edmunds and Diane Lawrence; raffle organiser Marion Powell and competitions organiser, Ann Williams.

The monthly meeting followed the AGM. Debra Coombs and Chris Haslock were congratulated on achieving 2nd place at the County Darts & Dominoes Final. Carol singing in Penybont and Dolau was arranged for 15th December. The competition for the evening was a red item, won by Heather Lewis with her red knitted socks.

The annual competitions cup was won jointly by Diane Lawrence and Gill Holt.

Following the business meeting members enjoyed a social with refreshments being provided by Collette Gwynne and Heather Lewis. The next meeting will be held on 3rd December when Christopher & Marion Rowlatt will present Christmas Words and Music; visitors are very welcome.
