2016-11 November 2016 Report

Dolau Mixtures November 2016 Report

At the annual meeting in November, Debra Coombes was re-elected as president, Gill Holt as secretary and Jackie Smith as treasurer.  The president reported on a full and successful year, with outings and a wide variety of talks and demonstrations, from learning to paint pottery, visiting a baconry, to health and make up talk, as well as supporting local events.

Members had entered classes in the County and other shows and had been successful, as had the Dolau WI quiz team who had won the Howey quiz last month.

Heather Lewis was presented with the award for the most points in competitions during the year.

The evening ended with a film show of the acclaimed pantomime, Robin of Radnor written by Gill Holt for the WI Annual meeting, and members watched fellow members performing in a variety of guises whilst enjoying popcorn and ice creams.

December 3rd saw the annual Christmas dinner at Lllandrindod golf club where spouses came along.  A  good time was had by all, enhanced with one of Gill Holt ‘pomes’ about famer Fred………………

At the December meeting it was time to learn how to make Christmas table decorations and wreaths, with instruction from Julie Hardwick and Gill Holt, after watching a demonstration, members and guests who had come along, tried their hand at making their own, with the demonstrators offering guidance, so the front doors and dinner tables of the Dolau area will be beautiful this Christmas. Afterwards a festive feast of Christmas food was enjoyed by all.

The WI hope to have an open meeting on March 1st with a St David’s Day themed cookery evening, and agreed that a bring & buy sale table should be organised for that evening, and to organise a coffee morning to include a bring & buy table, in February or March  with funds to be split between a charity and WI. [ Watch website and notice boards for details]

Dolau Womens Institute has welcomed some new members this year, as well as visitors to its meetings, and hope that more will come along to an action packed, informative programme in 2017.  We wish everyone reading this a very Happy Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful  New Year.
