2017-02 February 2017 Report

Dolau WI February 2017 Report

At the February meeting members watched in awe as Jean Morris demonstrated sugar craft, making roses, honeysuckle and other tiny flowers for cake decoration. She brought along examples of her prizewinning work to show and told stories of the things she had made as she skilfully made more petals.

An idea to knit 6 inch squares for blankets and other woollen things was suggested with the finished articles going to an orphanage in Romania with Hope Carriers of Hereford who take things out there each year.

The competition was for a cupcake and was won by Debra.

The fundraising coffee morning raised over £250 and a cheque will be presented to the Llandrindod Wells First Responders at a future meeting.

As the next meeting falls on St David’s Day the subject is appropriately Welsh cookery with a demonstration by Neil Dylan of Brecon Caterers, this is an open evening and visitors are welcome for a small charge of £2.  The competition is for a hand-made daffodil, and there will be food to finish the evening.

The April meeting is on April 5th and is a talk by Daniel Butler on foraging, with the competition being a favourite recipe using mushrooms.

Dolau WI meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30 in the Dolau Community Hall.  Visitors and new members are always welcome.
